CUPE Saskatchewan launches violence survey

CUPE Saskatchewan has launched a provincial survey to hear directly from members about the extent of violence and harassment in workplaces.

Members of CUPE can complete the survey here: https://cupesask.ca/violencesurvey/

CUPE has declared 2026 its Year of Health and Safety. The launch of the survey coincides with the union’s call on the provincial government to declare a workplace health and safety emergency, urging the government to work directly with workers and their unions to address unsafe conditions in workplaces across the province.

RALLY FOR EDUCATION

CUPE 2268 and CUPE 3730, representing education support workers in Greater Saskatoon Catholic Schools, have reached an impasse over wages in our current round of bargaining. Despite our efforts to move negotiations forward, the employer has not brought an acceptable monetary offer to the table.

Our members have made their resolve clear. Nearly 1,000 workers across both locals participated in strike votes, and each local received a mandate of close to 90% in favour. Our members have completed strike preparation training and are ready to take action if required, when legally able to do so.

This situation is not isolated. CUPE 8443, representing education support workers in Saskatoon Public Schools, is also in monetary discussions and has been offered an increase even lower than what the Catholic division has proposed. CUPE 4254, representing Prairie Spirit School Division support workers, has completed language negotiations and will soon begin monetary discussions. All four locals return to the bargaining table in April.

Now is the time for solidarity. We are asking for your support — not only for the CUPE locals above, but for education support workers across Saskatchewan. A strong show of community backing sends a clear message: education support workers have had enough of falling behind and deserve fair, respectful compensation for the vital work they do.

You can support education support workers in two important ways:

  1. Send a letter to the Catholic School Board of Trustees urging them to come to the table ready to negotiate a fair deal. You can read more and send a letter here: cupe.ca/gscs
  1. Join us for our upcoming Education Support Workers March and Community Rally on Saturday, March 28.

March Start:
LOCATION: Saskatoon Public Schools Board Office, 310 – 21st Street East, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 1M7
TIME: 1:00 PM

We will march together to the rally location.

WILD

CUPE is welcoming Indigenous, Black, and racialized women and non-binary members to apply for WILD, the first-ever national Women in Leadership Development training.

This union education program is designed specifically to support Indigenous, Black, and racialized women and non-binary members in strengthening their leadership within our union and communities.

WILD focuses on building skills in feminist leadership, strategic thinking, confident communication, relationship-building, and taking bold, meaningful action. Grounded in lived experience and collective learning, the program encourages participants to step into leadership in ways that are authentic and sustainable.

CUPE members in good standing can apply if they:

Have lived experience as an Indigenous, Black, or racialized woman or non-binary person
Are new to activism or have leadership experience
Want to make a difference in their union and community

This is a unique opportunity. We encourage members to apply. Together, we will build capacity and support the creative and courageous leaders our movement needs.
