Please find below a copy of the MOA between CUPE 1975 and University of Saskatchewan. We are expecting copies of the new Collective Agreement in a couple of weeks. Stay tuned!
You all should have received the information now that the University of Saskatchewan wasn’t in favor of granting Monday, Sept 19th as a holiday. Our language under Article 16.1 of our Collective Agreement states:
“Any date proclaimed as a public holiday by the provincial or federal government will be deemed to be a holiday for employees providing this does not duplicate holiday provisions above,”
The wording of this article hinges on the word “proclaim.”
We are continuing to communicate with our CUPE National Lawyer to see if we have a valid grievance to file.
We have had a number of inquires over the announcement from the Federal Government that next Monday would be a holiday for any Federal employees. Yesterday, Scott Moe and the Sask Party announced that they would not be granting that as a day off in Saskatchewan.
We have reached out to the University for their position on this. We expect that the University will be making a decision regarding this and communicating their decision sometime shortly.

We’re thrilled that CUPE member Nathaniel Teed is the NDP candidate in Saskatoon Meewasin! We just can’t stand by while the Sask. Party government continues to ignore the cost-of-living crisis, continues to mismanage the crisis of understaffing in health care and risks making it worse with privatization, and continues to make cuts to our classrooms with inadequate funding. Electing Nathaniel Teed as the next NDP MLA in Saskatoon Meewasin will bring another much-needed voice for workers and public services to the provincial legislature. It will also send a clear message to the Sask. Party that we all have had enough of cuts and inaction! Will you join us at a canvass this month? Together, let’s talk with our co-workers, neighbours and friends in Saskatoon Meewasin about the issues important to all of us.
