Dear CUPE 1975,
I am thrilled to be elected your President. Thank you. I look forward to working with you through our regular meetings; through our Executive and Standing Committees, and more social gatherings.
As the holiday season approaches, we wish you good health, peace, and well-deserved days off.
Christmas can be stressful too. We recognize not everyone celebrates: be strong and well in your own way.
Whatever your background and tradition, many cultures have a celebration of light, new birth, and love, like the Christmas story of a child who brings hope. Like the ancient marking of the Solstice.
On behalf of your union, CUPE 1975, and our Office Administrator, Heather Richinski (COPE 342), we wish you Happy Holidays and more good stuff in 2023!
Best wishes,
Gail Lasiuk, CUPE 1975 President

“[In 1867] the calls for an eight-hour workday were truly radical, inverting the relationship workers had to their employers by demanding not only less time on the job, but also the right to self-determination and the ability to set the standards for how their lives were organized. A common slogan of what became known as the Eight-Hour Movement was “Eight hours for work, eight hours for rest, eight hours for what we will.” (Trade Media LLC, 2022, https://www.paunions.com/)
